Redesign of a village church in accordance with the preservation order
As part of the renovation of the Protestant church in Bockel, we were commissioned to develop a design concept for the interior and to plan the lighting. The baroque interior of the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche is designed as a transverse hall. The altar and pulpit are arranged one above the other on one of the long walls in a floor-to-ceiling wooden porch. The galleries surround the altar area on three sides, while the organ is located on the gallery opposite the pulpit altar.
Interior design
The aim of the interior concept was to emphasize the existing qualities of the church interior in its basic structure and at the same time to create flexible spaces for action - especially for meditation, children, music and presentations. Through subtle interventions, the altar area was made more spacious and easier to use. The special aesthetic of the space is created by the modern design of the historic wooden elements, which creates a harmonious connection between old and new.
Lighting concept
The lighting concept developed by D:4 highlights the architectural features of the room and allows liturgical actions and motifs to be specifically emphasized. The motif of the chandelier was reinterpreted in the luminaires specially designed for this room. With a flexible yet easy-to-operate control system, the church can be adapted to different lighting moods to meet different requirements.
