Between 2005 and 2006, we completed a high-end townhouse in the heart of Berlin, right next to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The building combines a commercial unit with two residential units and follows a clearly structured yet flexible spatial concept.
To keep the levels as open and loft-like as possible and to create an open connection between the street and the courtyard, the staircase was arranged as a single flight along a gable wall. Supplementary, single-flight staircases intertwine with the main staircase, facilitating internal access to the various spaces. The result is a spatially striking system that combines functionality with sculptural quality.

Spatial Impact and Design

Despite the building’s narrow footprint, the individual levels create a sense of spaciousness. A light color scheme and a sophisticated lighting design reinforce this impression. Five large, stacked windows open the building up to both the urban space and the inner courtyard, offering expansive views toward Leipziger Straße and the adjacent park.
The façade is clad with floor-to-ceiling, anthracite-colored Eternit panels, emphasizing the building’s clean, contemporary architectural style.
