Binger Book Guild

Berlin-Schöneberg

Redesign of the shop

The bookstore at Wittenbergplatz, which has been managed by Johanna Binger since 1999, is part of the book community Büchergilde Gutenberg. As such, it belongs to a community of members, illustrators, authors, printers and binders and thus represents a holistic understanding of literature. Personal advice to customers and communication between readers and booksellers as well as authors and publishers are part of the concept. In this way, the Büchergilde Binger can present selected literature that not only follows fashionable trends, but also pursues a deeper educational mission.

In keeping with this special programme, D:4 has taken on the redesign of the bookstore's interior, façade and shop window. This now appears in a new, contemporary design that meets the functional requirements of the bookshop and communicates the community spirit of the Book Guild to the outside world through an inviting and playfully designed façade.

In a first step, the façade was freed from its grey wall panels, thus exposing the black tiles. These were then cleaned, refurbished and supplemented with new lettering. The red neon "Bücher" ("Books") lettering is reminiscent of the store design of the (1950s) post-war modern era and is also clearly visible from a distance. The letter puzzle with important writers and the yellow lettering "LESEN" playfully complements the special features of the black tiled façade.

The shop window gets a new logo and new shelf elements. In the interior, the new hanging system, which follows the aesthetics of the exposed heating pipes, ensures that pictures and works of art are hung in an optimised way. A new shelving system and a new sales counter are currently still in the planning stage.
