Way of life Rotenburg

Rotenburg

Multi-generation house

The LebensArt Rotenburg housing project with its eight versatile apartments offers space for different ways of life.

Project

The intergenerational residential project LebensArt Rotenburg combines an ecological lifestyle with modern, communal living. Eight individually designed apartments of different sizes and shapes offer their residents the opportunity to enjoy privacy and active togetherness at the same time. A two-storey atrium, including a kitchenette and guest apartment, serves as a meeting point and place for communication and joint events in the centre of the building. The individual design of the apartments and the communal use of resources are intended to enable people of different ages and lifestyles to live together under a sustainable concept. Car sharing, park-like gardens and open spaces, a swimming pond and forward-looking energy technology are all part of the concept.

Building

The building at Mühlenstraße 29a in Rotenburg consists of two full floors including basement rooms and a developed attic. Three apartments each are grouped on the ground and upper floors around the two-storey common room, the atrium. Further apartments are located on the top floor. The apartment sizes vary between 40 and 120 m². All apartments are equipped with underfloor heating and controlled ventilation allows for ecological heat recovery.

The central access to the building is via a staircase and an elevator, so that all apartments as well as the common area and cellar can be reached without barriers.

40 photovoltaic modules on the roof as well as the use of geothermal energy and a high standard of thermal insulation ensure high energy efficiency and extensive independence from external power supply. Sharing resources also plays an important role in the intergenerational, ecological and barrier-free living concept - starting with the fact that shared living reduces land consumption.

For this, the Lebensart e.V. Rotenburg residential project was awarded the Green House Number 2023 prize in the category of new buildings. With the Green House Number, the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of Lower Saxony recognizes examples of energy-efficient construction and renovation - both renovations and new buildings. The prerequisite in the new building category is that the building must have been completed as at least an Efficiency House 40.
