In 2016, commercial space 1061 in the Corbusierhaus was converted for use as a gallery space. We developed the concept for the conversion and oversaw its implementation on site. The name “treppe b” derives from the room’s location between the second and third interior corridors in stairwell B. The T-shaped floor plan also served as the design basis for the gallery’s logo.

Concept and Use

The goal of the renovation was to create a versatile exhibition and event space. To achieve this, a compact kitchenette was installed and the existing bathroom was renovated. In addition, the room was fitted with new flooring; its striking blue linoleum complements the gallery’s overall aesthetic.

This deliberate integration of architectural elements and visual identity creates a close interplay between the space and the corporate design. In terms of content, the gallery now focuses primarily on works by Le Corbusier and postwar modernism in Berlin. In addition to its regular opening hours, the space is used as a vibrant venue for exchange and discussion through exhibition openings and curator-led tours.
